Only Emily Dickinson could open a poem with a line like ‘“Hope” is the thing with feathers’. Poets before her had compared hope to a bird, but ‘thing with feathers’ was a peculiarly Dickinsonian touch.

‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –

And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –

I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet – never – in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of me.

Yes, it’s been a while since I’ve posted. My apologies.

Seems I’ve gotten carried away with everything that’s been in the news concerning businesses, the weather, the economy, and Chicago as well as the rest of the world, just to name a few. “Hoping” it will come to an end soon. Thus, a post on the lighter side of things, Flight Plans.

There is beauty, romance, and design all around us. I for one will make it a point to recognize it a bit more often. I wanted to extend a thank you to my family, friends, colleagues, and readers for following and for taking the time to stop by.

All my best,

Michael

Last week I had the opportunity to escape the snow and ice of Chicago, in exchange for a week in the Sunshine State. Yes, while the locals in Florida were in jackets and fleeces as the temps dipped way down to 65 degrees, I was contemplating breaking out the shorts. Never the less, in my case, it was heaven not to be covered from head to toe protecting myself from the Midwestern elements.

I know that it may be a lot to ask for the design of a bathroom, but I’m sure after perusing a few of my finds you’ll agree and hopefully be inspired to perhaps update your own space.

A modern twist to a classic shape, amphoras were used as early as the Bronze Age.

Why not? We spend enough time getting ready for work, curing our illnesses, or just relaxing in the bath, let’s make it the best it can be.

I hope my journal encourages a creative spark in your home. Let’s think beyond a fresh coat of paint, a new curtain, or even towels, and create something remarkable.
